A fresh political debate has emerged after Saboti MP Caleb Amisi publicly questioned political commentator Wahome Thuku while advocating for a new leadership direction ahead of the next General Election.
In a brief but provocative social media post Amisi challenged Thuku's political position jokingly asking whether he was acting as a political insider working against the opposition's interests.
The legislator then made a bold proposal arguing that opposition leaders should unite behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as a presidential candidate.
According to Amisi, if former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka were genuinely committed to political change they should support Sifuna's presidential bid rather than pursuing individual ambitions.
The MP suggested that such an alliance would not only increase the opposition's chances of defeating President William Ruto in the next election but would also usher in a new generation of political leadership.
He argued that Kenya's political landscape needs fresh faces and ideas capable of addressing the concerns of younger citizens and shaping the country's future.
Amisi's remarks come at a time when discussions about the opposition's preferred candidate continue to dominate political conversations.
Several leaders have been mentioned as potential contenders with speculation growing over whether opposition parties can agree on a single candidate capable of mounting a formidable challenge against Ruto.
By proposing Sifuna as the opposition's flag bearer Amisi has introduced another dimension to the debate.
Sifuna who has gained prominence through his outspoken political positions and active role in national discussions is increasingly being viewed by some supporters as a representative of a younger generation of leaders.
The comments have sparked mixed reactions online with supporters praising Amisi for promoting generational transition in leadership while critics question whether Sifuna currently possesses the national political network required for a successful presidential campaign.
