"Turn Up In Large Numbers" Oburu Mobilizes ODM Supporters to Attend his Rally as a Show of Mighty

Two parallel political rallies by rival factions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are set for Saturday, underscoring that divisions within the party are far from ending.

ODM party leader Oburu Odinga is expected to headline a major gathering in Siaya as part of the climax of the Linda Ground rallies across Nyanza.

Speaking during a meeting in Siaya, Oburu urged ODM supporters to turn up in large numbers as a show of strength within the party.

He said the rally will also serve as his homecoming ceremony following his election as the party leader.

The Oburu-led axis has in recent months expressed support for the broad-based government and has openly backed President William Ruto’s re-election bid, a position that has sparked debate within the party ranks.

He dismissed claims by some government leaders that the Deputy President’s seat is untouchable, saying ODM remains focused on negotiations that will protect its interests within the broad-based government.

Meanwhile, a separate faction led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is scheduled to hold a rally in Kakamega County.

Sifuna’s camp has strongly opposed any political arrangement that could result in ODM backing Ruto, positioning itself as a pro-opposition wing seeking to preserve the party’s traditional stance.
