The families of Nairobi-based biker Elvis Khamala, popularly known as Gustavo, and his wife Diana Mwai have officially announced burial dates and venues following their untimely deaths in a tragic road accident.
The couple lost their lives on March 15 along the Northern Bypass in Nairobi. According to reports, Gustavo was riding his motorcycle when he collided with a Probox vehicle that was making a turn.
He died instantly at the scene, while Diana, who was a pillion passenger, was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.
Their sudden deaths have left family, friends, and the wider biking community in deep mourning, especially considering the two had recently welcomed a child together just five months ago.
Despite their close relationship, the families have decided that the two will be buried separately. Diana Mwai will be laid to rest on March 25 at her rural home in Kiaritha village, located in Kirinyaga County.

A family member revealed that Gustavo had one biological child with Diana, although he also helped raise her second child from a previous relationship. This clarification came amid speculation online about the couple’s family life.
The decision to bury them separately has sparked conversations online, with many Kenyans expressing mixed reactions. However, cultural practices have played a key role in the arrangements.

According to Luhya traditions, a man can only bury his wife if dowry was officially paid. In cases where this has not been fulfilled, the woman’s family retains the right to conduct her burial.
As funeral preparations continue, both families have appealed to well-wishers for financial support to give the young couple a dignified send-off.
